Rev3 Rocked!

Such an exciting day...we went up to Middlebury, CT to watch the inaugural Rev3 triathlon. And, of course, we witnessed one of the most thrilling races to date in that Bec finished SECOND! Such an amazing feat considering the star-studded field that included several world champions and Olympians. We got to watch most of her race unfold on the Jumbotron (it was a half-ironman, so they were out there for four hours!) and hear the race directors go on and on and on about how surprised they were to see Bec in the lead. Eventually, they conceded that this woman in the lead who "was by no means a pre-race favorite" was no fluke. She even held her ground after being passed by three women and pretty much forgotten about by the commentators, only to zoom back into second place and almost catching the leader (who, by the way, is one of the fastest runners among all long-distance triathletes in the world).

By the end of the day, as she collected her pottery (a pretty cool alternative to a trophy) and her $12,000 check, she received a huge shout-out from the announcer about how great of a season she's having and how she's the one to watch. But of course, we've known that all along...the rest of the world is finally realize just how amazingly talented she is!

I am too tired to illustrate just how thrilling of a race this was, so I'll just leave you with some pics of the day. Oh, and not to be forgotten: Ula completed both the swim and the bike portions of the race but opted to save her legs for next week's half-ironman in Cambridge. This was her plan all along, so we weren't surprised to see her circle back to the transition area after the bike. She looked awesome out there and is primed to do really well at Eagleman!
p.s. Could Eamon's "Team Wassner" tee been the good luck charm that Bec needed? Perhaps! The adorable shirt was sent to us by Danielle (Danver) Layne and will be worn to every race we go to...this season, at least! We love it! thanks, Danielle!
