Swingin' Sam

Is this kid having fun or what? Eamon and I accompanied Leezie and Sam to the playground on Monday for a quick swing...he loves it! What a cutie pie!

Eamon loves the ladies! After we got back from the triathlon on Sunday, we had a nice visit from Meghan. He put on his best performance for her as we hung out and lunched at the Frozen Monkey.

Then on Monday, after a wonderful sister's summit (in honor of Bec!), which included a lunch at Barbuto (where they didn't seem too pleased to have a 12-month old and a 5-week old "entertaining" us all), we went back to Leezie's where she was finally able to hold E. With Sam keeping her very busy, she hasn't had much downtime with her new nephew, but she got some nice cuddles in with him. What a lucky boy to have so many aunties and pseudo-aunties in his life!

Number One!

Eamon and I made a bright-and-early trip up to Rye, NY, on Sunday morning, where we saw Aunt Bec and Karl go one-three at the Westchester Tri! Yup, it was E's second race in two weeks...good thing he seems to like the tri scene or else we'd be in major trouble!

I was so excited to see my amazing sisters conquer the competition with ease--especially awesome considering they were both just one week removed from the half-ironman in Canada (that's a total of 70.3 miles of swimming, biking, and running!). Most people need months to recover from that kind of distance, but the two of them just bounced back like it was a sprint. They showed zero signs of fatigue as they ran the fastest splits of the day among women and both finished with huge smiles on their faces!

Aside from taking in the race action, Eamon also got to spend a little time with "Grand Liz", Papa Irv, and Great Aunt Bubba. He had so much fun, he passed out for a good three hours afterwards...exhausting work being a baby!

Chop chop

Today, Mark treated me to some much-needed pampering. While he initially offered up some spa treatments, I opted instead for a hair cut, as it had been way too long since I had done anything with my mane. And things were getting a bit messy (and painful) between Eamon spitting up in it and grabbing it when I hold him! So, after about seven inches fell to the floor, I have a new 'do.

I tried to channel Lonnie's new adorable asymetrical bob, but kept it a bit longer so I could still pull it back when running and working out. I didn't quite get that result, but I'm happy. We'll see how it looks when it's curly, as now it's poker straight thanks to an overeager stylist wielding an extra-hot flatiron!

When I got home, Eamon gave me some skeptical looks, but finally offered a coo of approval before falling fast asleep in Mark's arms...

Sir Smiles A Lot

Got a bunch of smiles and other cute expressions out of Eamon the other day...there's something about our ceiling that he really loves. I think it's a combo of the fan, the bright blue walls against the contrast of the white crown molding, and the shadows. Whatever the reason, it gets him in a great mood (when he's not hungry, that is).

Here are some fun shots of him taken yesterday. It was a bit chilly out so I put him in an "oversized" (3-6 months) cardigan--they're in this fall, right?--that made him look like a linebacker. Mark's taken to call him Brian Urlacher (he plays for the Chicago Bears, I learned).

Struggled with a bout of insomnia last night, which had nothing to do with Eamon who was sleeping like a champ (I even had to wake him up to feed him!). Rather, I had a lot on my mind after getting a surprise visit which proceeded to ruin my night. I won't go into it any further, but since when is it OK to come over uninvited and proceed to blast a new mom with a sleeping baby in her arms?

Anyway, at 3:30 a.m. I found myself in the kitchen reading the new US Weekly, which features the super-skinny stars of 90210 on the cover. From the get-go, Karl (my 9-0-watching partner) and I were appalled by the rexi girls on the show. They are seriously emaciated. And with a quick google search a few weeks back, I saw that this was not always the case...they were all, well, normal looking (but still thin) in prior roles. Knowing how many young girls are watching the show, it's scary to think the negative influence this may have on them. It's kind of like Ally McBeal allover again, except the characters are wearing tiny dresses and short shorts instead of power suits. That said, maybe the actors' thinness s is a shout-out to its 90's heritage when the lollypop head look was really in.

It'll be interesting to see if the cast fills out a bit now that there's some sort of intervention going on by the producers. It's good to see that at least Kelly and Brenda maintained their wholesome shape!

One month old

Eamon is now one month old. We marked the date with a trip to the pediatrician for a check-up. Not his favorite activity in the slightest (especially because this visit involved a shot), but he didn't put up much of a fuss.

Our not-so-little guy is now up to 11 pounds, 4 ounces (another pound-plus from his visit two weeks ago) and 23 inches (he grew an inch). That puts him in the 80th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for length. Impressive, huh?

Mr. Big Eyes

I absolutely love when Eamon's eyes are open...he turns into a completely different person than when he's asleep! Since he's being more alert these days, we're getting more awake time and a better chance to see what our little guy really looks like. I think he might have my eyes--what do you think?

Good news

Hooray! Eamon 's arm is HEALED! After a visit to the orthopedist yesterday and another x-ray, we received the excellent news that his humerus bone has fused back together. The doctor was very positive and said we there's no need for further followup or physical therapy. I would have done a dance right there in the examination room had Eamon not been screaming (he was hungry and had a dirty diaper...a double whammy!).

E's acting as though nothing ever happened and is moving his arm with ease. He's also become quite the reflective little guy and spends his wakeful time just staring at the ceiling. (And in turn, I tend to stare at him in complete awe!). Once in a while he'll get chatty and start making cute coos and other baby noises. Those moments make all of the late night diaper changings and feedings completely worth it!

Here are some pics of E in one of his contemplative moods. Now if only I could get him to time these chill periods when we're say, at the store or elsewhere in public (we've had a few meltdowns lately eliciting some stares and "boy, is he hungry!" comments from strangers...). I guess that's just life with a newborn!

There's definitely no lack of activity in our weekends...We took another trip down the Jersey Turnpike; this time for a visit to Silver Spring, Bethesda, Thurmont, DC, and Arlington! After a fun trip down from NYC with Leezie, Sam, and Eamon snuggled up in the backseat (see pic), we drove through rain and some alternating crying jags (Eamon, then Sam, Sam, then Eamon) before descending upon University Towers. We woke up early on Saturday to head into Bethesda, where we met with Corinne and Lonnie (in from San Fran with an adorable new 'do!). We brunched with them before getting back in the car for a trip up to the Farm where we celebrated Sam's first birthday! Aleta and crew, Bubba, Jeanie, Uncle Phil, the 'rents, and the Kobilinsky's all were there for the festivities.

We had a great time hanging out, eating BBQ, and watching Sam dig into his fuuurst birthday cake (we sang to Philip, too, who will be two soon....). Sam is such a cute guy who is always all smiles and now "cruises"....he's ready to WALK!

On Sunday, Mark, E, and I drove into DC to watch the Nation's Tri...two Flynn cousins were competing so we got to see the tail end of the run. It was a huge race (close to 3,000 competitors) and I was wishing I was out there crossing that finish line with everyone else! We then honored the triathletes at a BIG fam brunch at Rhodeside in Rosslyn...there were 20 of us there!

After all of that fun, we scooped Leezie and Sam up and piled back into the car for another trip up the road. We pulled into the 'Boken around 1 am, completely exhausted! But it was all worth it...always so wonderful to see the friends and fam!

On the Run Again...

This afternoon, Eamon and I joined Karl and Bec at the picturesque Weehawken track (I know, the words picturesque and Weehawken are rarely used together, but check out the view!). This is a brand new track/field about 1.5 miles away from our place and is easily one of the nicest facilities around. While the twin turbos churned out hardcore intervals, I jogged along the perimeter at a pedestrian pace with E snuggled up in the BOB . It was my fourth run this week, and each time gets a little better. I still don't feel like my old self (for starters, there are a few more jiggly parts to contend with now!), but it is very refreshing to be out there again--albeit super slow.

I haven't been able to see K or B compete this season, so I really enjoyed seeing them run around together...they are both in amazing shape and somehow are able to smile through really intense workouts. I was completely inspired and can't wait 'til I'm able to keep up with them again (for at least the first few seconds of their runs...)!
