The Anatomy of a Meal

Here is the recipe I went with for last night's meal. Given that it is a recipe supposedly sprung from the heartland, I thought it was especially appropriate for my favorite midwesterner (and my favorite wife of a midwesterner). But do they use Cheeze-Its in Quincy, too? We weren't so lucky in G-burg.

The dish sounds sounds wonderful! I may try to replicate it this weekend. I'm sure Julie will love it, as it contains most of her favorite foods: chicken, cheese, broccoli, and a Campbell's product. With the inclusion of a green vegetable, one can present an argument (however lame) that the entree is healthy. It might just be the perfect food, second only to beef jerky.

Forging ahead is a fairly large part of my life these days. That doesn't completely describe it, though. I like to think of it more in terms of looking forward. Some of the things we look forward to are pleasant, some are not. Either way, we'll have to deal with them, so better to be ready, if possible.

I am a slightly different person every day. Some days, I am very different. I am finding that it is impossible to fight these changes in my own reality, and it is better to accept them, remember them, and move on. A phrase Grandpop used to use keeps running through my head: "Go with the flow, brother!" I always knew what the words meant, but they have recently taken on far greater importance. I think I now understand the phrase the way Grandpop meant it to be understood. Oddly, this is one of a string of truths that have been revealed to me as a result of family tragedies.

Even with all the great intentions of "looking forward," it's impossible to ignore ongoing suffering. I hope Aliza and the rest of the family get through this as well as they can.
